How to become MCP, MCSA, MCSE, MCDBA...
So you want to get a Microsoft certificate and want to find out what is needed? Here you're about to get some valuable info.
First of all, what is the use of certification, is it worth spending time and money? For me the answer is definite: YES, although this answer is not so obvious for other people. What could be my reply? Any fellow who passed at least one exam don't regret about that fact at all.
But why is that? Many companies when hiring people for the position of systems administrator or IT-specialist don't ask about having any certificates and even wonder what is that? At the same time at any respectable company having Microsoft statuses is welcomed and even is mandatory. In addition (in most cases) a certified specialist will be offered a better salary. Another idea is that whatever they say but in the process of preparing for the exam real knowledge and experiense is gained, the student is "growing" in the field of his profession. And even there are such ideas that a student gains a sort of intellectual (or informational) addiction, he needs more and more knowledge. It is not quite true, of course, but in my opinion it depends on the person.
So which exam are you going to take? At the very beginning it's better to decide what is your goal, i.e. the field of knowledge to discover, for example, you can specialize in internet, SQL, etc. Here the Microsoft site can be of help, the page devoted to certification: www.microsoft.com/learning.
On making your mind about the first exam (usually it is the exam on Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP Professional) you are to find where you are going to take your exam. By the way, you have to choose how you are going to prepare for the exam as well. There are only two ways probably: the first one is the simpliest and the most expensive, the second way is cheap, but "tuff". In the first case you go to the authorized learning centre and pay a considerable sum of money (the course on MCSE costs more than 1000 US dollars), in the second case you prepare yourself, then you take your exam at any certification centre for a sum of about 50 US dollars. By the way, a lot of questions about certification are discussed here: certification.ru. You ask why to pay a thousand when you can pass a test for mere 50$? You know, it is not so simple as it seems to be, even an experienced specialist has to do his best to pass the easiest exam. So how to pass and spend a little? The reply can be found here: "Advice"...
